本課程將探討與宗教信念相關的知識論問題，其中部份問題如下：宗教體驗能否證成宗教信仰？宗教信仰是否需要充份的證據支持，還是說，只要有個人主觀的信心就足夠了？宗教的多樣性會讓宗教信念變得不可信嗎？超自然的奇蹟可信嗎？

本課程以David Hume、William Clifford與William James的經典文章為引子，然後將集中於基督教哲學家Richard Swinburne與Alvin Plantinga對宗教信念的探討。雖然課程讀物以基督教哲學家的著作為主，但討論範圍不限於基督教，歡迎修課同學把其他宗教以及無神論帶入討論。此外，修課同學無需熟悉任何宗教傳統或典籍，因此亦歡迎對知識論感興趣的同學修讀。

大學部同學若對宗教哲學或神學擁有濃厚興趣，並且擁有良好的學習動力，亦可考慮修讀本課程。請於修課前與課程教師聯繫及討論。

This course is an introduction to the epistemology of religious belief. Topics in this course include but not limited to the following: Can religious experiences justify religious beliefs? Do religious beliefs require sufficient evidence, or do they simply require subjective faith and devotion? Is religious diversity a challenge to religious beliefs? Are supernatural miracles believable?

In the first three weeks, the classical texts of David Hume, William Clifford and William James will be examined. The rest of the course will focus on the works of contemporary Christian philosophers Alvin Plantinga and Richard Swinburne. The course, however, does not limit itself to the discussion of Christianity; discussions of other major religions and atheism are welcomed. In addition, students are not required to be familiar with any religious tradition or scripture, and hence students with an interest in pure epistemology are also welcomed.
